Whenever a TV series becomes rather popular, you can be certain that there’s a game that will be made after it. Westworld is no exception. One of the hottest TV shows today, this HBO and Warner Bros produced series is critically-acclaimed and is one of the most-viewed shows worldwide. As fans and viewers wait for the next season, the developers (also Warner Bros) hopes to make the wait a little bearable by giving the fans a Westworld game on mobile devices. With that said, does the game live up to the TV show or are you better off binge-watching the series from scratch? Let’s find out:

If you have zero idea about Westworld, it is basically a theme park where rich vacationers go to live out their wildest fantasies. The vacationers are accompanied by “hosts” which function as the ones responsible for satisfying their needs. This is kind of hard to follow, but the hosts are pre-programmed and follow a set of stories and narratives, capable of interacting with guests and each other. Although everything feels like some sort of simulation, it’s nearly a reality. Guests can do anything they want with their hosts, and this is Westworld’s biggest draw. For example, they can do things like play cards with their hosts or even do something rather violent to them.

Basically, Westworld is themed after the Wild West. There are saloons, trains, and even banks guests can actually rob. It lets people live out their fantasies in an old western setting, and it is your job, as one of the assistants running the place, to run the place. Here, you will get to manufacture hosts with various abilities and attributes and pair them up with guests. As you progress further into the game, you will get to unlock more hosts, get more guests to come over, and build more structures on Westworld. The game is set like a theme park simulator. You can create new structures, mold several hosts into one to make a stronger host with better attributes, or simply explore various narratives and dialogues.

In terms of presentation, Westworld closely resembles the TV series. Like the show, it has two parts: the management area below where you build structures and manufacture hosts. The area on the surface is the actual Westworld where all the action happens. The graphics are pretty much standard for a mobile game, although you have to commend the art style and the way the characters move since they were animated well. The narratives are also expertly-written which isn’t a surprise given the show’s intriguing story and quality of writing.

There is a huge learning curve when playing Westworld, especially if you aren’t a fan of the show. The setting and jargon is fairly deep and complicated. Fortunately, the developers have done a great job in the tutorial phase to orient you about the game’s intricacies. In addition, it also rewards you well in performing challenges, and the freemium elements aren’t too demanding considering that this is essentially a single-player game.

Overall, Westworld a good theme park simulator and certainly something you would want to play if you’re a big fan of the series. In addition, it’s also a great starting point if you’re planning to watch the show. So, give Westworld a shot and start entertaining your guests!
