From the creators of one of the world’s leading learning program, ABCmouse, Adventure Academy is a brilliant virtual world game that’s cleverly designed to be both fun to play and also educational. It covers a wide range of topics from science and math to English, and is suitable for kids between the ages of 8 to 13.

From the get-go, the Adventure Academy doesn’t look at all like a learning program. The game has fun and simple quests for you to complete, most of which involves talking to people, helping them find missing items, or gathering stuff just so you can craft something you may want… like a cool acoustic guitar for your avatar!

The game will eventually ease you into its more educational aspects, all of which can be accessible via the many kiosks scattered around the academy. The academy itself can be separated into 3 main wings – Science, Math and the Library, and obviously, you’ll be able to find relevant lessons in each of these locations.

In the Science wing, for instance, there are plenty of exhibits with info that you can read up on and also a ton of video-based lessons. There’s the cool Science Fair video series where real kids perform some simple yet impressive scientific experiments that you can even do at home yourself; the Crash Courses videos which help to break down seemingly complicated concepts into more easily digestible forms; and the Escape from Fred series which is similar to the Magic School Bus episodes where Miss Frizzle and her class explore the human body.

The Library wing, on the other hand, focuses a lot more on reading and typing skills. Hence, the kiosk in that room contains chockful of classic and also Adventure Academy-exclusive storybooks, along with lots of video lessons on grammar and the nuances of the English language like Grammar Kingdom – a particular favorite of mine is the Use Your Words video series where an English professor is trying to teach a cave girl that he found while hiking how to use English properly.

For those who are struggling with writing essays or writing in general, Mr Wordsmith might be able to help as well. There are even fun typing tests and a mystery-based “Find who’s the culprit” game called Kitty City Mysteries where you’ll learn how to examine a situation, infer from various pieces of evidences you’ve collected, and link everything up to make a conclusion about a case.

Of course, let’s not forget about the Math wing where you’ll learn more about various math topics. in addition to playing a ton of math-oriented games such as the Bee Multiplication game. However, during my review, the wing was still “under construction” and I couldn’t get into the wing. There’s still a little math game that you can play outside of the Math wing though!

The game comes in 4 academic difficulty levels, namely Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced and Expert, so you can easily adjust your difficulty rating depending on how much you’ve already learned and how much more you think you can handle.

Aside from quests and lots of educational games, Adventure Academy has many virtual world features too, including plenty of places to explore, shops to buy stuff from (you’ll earn game currency by playing educational games or viewing educational videos), and best of all, you can also own and decorate your own home! The game is social as well, allowing you to invite your friends over to your place, or you can drop by their home instead.

Like any self-respecting virtual world game, you can also customize your avatar to by purchasing and "wearing/equipping" a variety of clothes, items and accessories. Eventually, you may even be able to afford to buy a cute pet which will follow you around!

Plus, Adventure Academy lets you create up to 3 different characters, each with their own sets of progress tracking, login and password, as well as save files. So basically, you can share a single account with your siblings or friends and spread out the monthly cost of the game a bit. The game is also a multi-platform game, so you can play Adventure Academy on your PC or on your mobile devices (Android/iOS) too!

Adventure Academy is not a free-to-play game, however. You can get a free 30-day trial and if you like it a lot, you can continue the subscription paying only $9.99 per month thereafter. Considering that you’ll be able to learn as you play, it’s a pretty sweet deal.

So, if you’re looking for a virtual world game that’s not only fun but happens to be educational as well, Adventure Academy is the perfect place to be! Do give the game a try!
