Rail Nation is a browser based strategy game where players are given control of a brand new railway company and are tasked with leading this company into success. The game looks pretty solid, has pretty good gameplay that requires good decision making from the player and is overall really well executed so it’s something that players should definitely try out.

Starting off in the world of Rail Nation players will first of all be asked to create their own character. This is the character that will represent you in the game and the creation menu is pretty solid as you’ll have a lot of options to play around with to make your character as unique as possible.

Once you’re through with character creation you’re taken into the game where the tutorial begins without asking you whether or not you’d like to take it. Although the tutorial has a lot to teach about the game, it’s one of the most poorly implemented things about the game since it takes quite a long time to do what it’s supposed to and during it you’re restricted from doing any other thing which can become rather annoying. Thankfully, at the end of the tutorial, you’ll have learned a lot about the game and the entire game world will be open for you to do your thing.

The gameplay itself is pretty fun as there are a ton of tasks in the game that you can do. There are more trains to buy, routes to create and structures to upgrade on your journey to establish a flourishing company. While playing Rail Nation you’ll never feel idle because of the fact that there’s always something you need to complete and the best part of it all is that you don’t have to invest a lot of time into the game if you want to make progress as a lot of things take time to complete so you can simply login to the game for a few, queue up a few things and then log back out without having to worry about losing any profits or what not.

There’s a pretty in-depth research system in Rail Nation where you can research new technology for your company and your locomotives. The research tree is pretty large so there are a ton of things that you can upgrade but it’s worth pointing out that some researches can cost quite a lot so it’s wise sometimes to avoid researching unless you have a lot of extra resources that you can utilize.

From a visual perspective, Rail Nation is pretty solid. Although the game doesn’t look that sharp, there’s a lot going on such as your own locomotives moving place to place and just a ton of other detail on the map to go with it. The train models that you’ll see in the shop look pretty top notch as well.

There are two main currencies in Rail Nation. The premium currency is gold bars and the standard currency is cash. Cash is mostly used for upgrades and purchasing in-game objects while gold bars can be used for tasks such as speeding up already queued tasks or buying certain objects. Both can be acquired through in-game means but they can also be bought with real world money.

Rail Nation is a great strategy and management game that will appeal to players of all kinds.
